Christmas at the Parkers…

yesterday from the kiddos’ room…

after not nice exchanging of fussing sounds between my two (currently) youngest, my oldest says very take-charge-matter-of-factly-accusatorily, ” santa is watching you.” to which my middlest says, “he not really…… ????” i, of course, took care of the discussion by staying completely out of it. let them figure it out. :)

this will be our first Christmas with just our immediate family in 3 years. i’m so excited. there’s something about being in your own home. with Christmas stuff you haven’t seen in years. and with them getting older, it’s only getting more fun! i love taking them to look at Christmas lights. at every new display my girl draws in her breath. and the boys are loving it. it really is special through the eyes of children. and husbands who are children at heart. my honey brings the magic of the season back for me. i love it. and i love him. he gets so excited about Christmas and, not only does he not discourage me from putting up the tree early he urges me on – who says you have to wait until thanksgiving?! and did i mention at each turn of the weather he watches all night for snow. it’s awesome!

and the white light/colored light debate? that’s really funny in our house. i was VERY much a white light only girl. pretty. that’s the key word i told pearl 7 years ago, not tacky. and even pre-children pearl said, “wait til we have kids, they’ll like MY stuff more than yours.” “i don’t care, keep your tinsel and plastic santas, i’ll decorate our house with silver and gold, snowmen, and class.” ah, how things have changed and i’ve swallowed yet more of my words. not only do i tolerate the dancing, singing santa sitting atop my computer that plays carols way too loudly, my favorite houses while out driving are the over-decorated Griswold houses. no, really. i love them. in fact, my tree is a multi-colored fiber-optic extravaganza (no pics, i can’t find a camera, much less figure out how to use it and get it on here, sorry, the joys of living in the constant moment with 3 and half little ones!). so, our tree? it also has white lights to go with the tinsel multi-light star on top. it has my cute snowmen and classy snowflakes scattered amidst the dr. seuss and plastic snoopy ornaments. and because i have a toddler most of the ornaments start at least a fourth of the way up the tree. and most are bunched in the front hanging precariously on the same branch. and i love it. my melded life. proof we have become one. and that we have 3 small children that know what magic is. the santa debate? i don’t want to go into it, because there’s already enough divisiveness in the world. and we all seem to get fired up about everything nowdays. me? i just want to be in the moment, teaching timelessness in Truth, and watching the world while drawing in my breath at every turn.
